OTHER SCHOLARY ACTIVITY:
Dr. Gherke is the Campus Coordinator
of Teaching American History in Southern West Virginia
Schools Project. He works in coordination with
Dr. Bill O'Brien, who wrote the original grant, to
improve the teaching of American history in public
schools in southern West Virginia. Presently
in the second year of the three year project, the
effort includes summer training seminars for public
school teachers in which they develop curriculum packages
that they are expected to use with their students
upon return to school in the fall. The project
also includes school year visitations by he and other
higher education faculty of teachers and classrooms
where the curriculum packages are implemented.
