Second Chance Pell ESI

Glenville State College is one of 67 educational institutions across the United States awarded the opportunity to allow eligible incarcerated individuals to receive PELL Grant monies to pursue postsecondary education degree completion. This program builds on the U.S. Department of Education’s commitment to contribute to a more effective criminal justice system, reduce the chance of being re-incarcerated, and combat the impact of mass incarceration on families and communities through education. Dubbed the Second Chance Pell (SCP) this program is truly giving incarcerated individuals a second chance at becoming productive members of their communities upon release from the facility they are housed through.

GSC services two locations through the SCP: FCI Gilmer and Huttonsville Correctional Facility. We currently serve a combined total of approximately 150 students between the two locations. There are Program Coordinators dedicated to the academic integrity of the programs offered at each location. Mrs. Teresa Weiford, Visiting Instructor of Business and Program Coordinator with the educational staff at Huttonsville and Mr. Warren Chesser, Assistant Professor of Business and Program Coordinator for the FCI Gilmer location ensure that academic integrity and the safety of the facility are both being met at the necessary standards.
