ACCOUNTING

Mission Statement

The Department of Business of Glenville State College is committed to educating students to be thoughtful, productive, engaged, and responsible citizens. The baccalaureate accounting program will supply the financial workforce with individuals who are both technically skilled and trained in the practice of accounting.

Goals

  1. Students will be able to work for CPA firms, businesses, education, and other government agencies in the accounting field.
  2. Students will be able to enter an MBA program with a concentration in accounting or another business discipline.
  3. Students will be able to complete approximately 22 additional hours of coursework and sit for the CPA exam.

Objectives

  1. Students will be able to analyze basic accounting transactions.
  2. Students will be able to perform quantitative business calculations.
  3. Students will be able to apply technology terms to a Windows-based operating environment.
  4. Students will be able to apply business communication principles to communication situations in business practice.
  5. Students will be able to classify basic principles of management theory.
  6. Students will be able to apply marketing concepts to basic business scenarios.
  7. Students will be able to correctly report financial data.
  8. Students will determine job order costs and manufacturing costs.
  9. Students will analyze corporate financial statements.
  10. Students will apply auditing principles to business procedures and reports.

General goals for Glenville State College’s business programs are:

  • Develop the student’s critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
  • Develop the student’s creative capacity for independent thought and action.
  • Develop the student’s understanding of employer-employee relationships.
  • Promote the benefits of life-long learning (continuing professional education).
  • Develop the student’s global awareness of concepts and events that affect local, state and national business affairs.

  • Develop the student’s mastery of entry-level skills and knowledge critical to success in the business environment.
