Circulation Policy

In general, books circulate for a two week (14 day) period and audio visual materials (such as videotapes) circulate for a one week (seven day) period. GSC faculty and staff have an extended circulation period. Overdues are $0.10 a day per item and $0.25 an hour per item for reserve items. Periodicals, reference materials, microforms, locked case items, and archival materials do not circulate except with the approval of the Library Director or the Staff Librarian.

Users - Faculty, staff, and students use their GSC ID Card as their library card. Many library resources are also available to community users. Borrower's privileges are extended to West Virginia patrons including the NORLN (NORthern Library Network) and MLN (Mountain Library Network) library groups. However, GSC academic use supersedes all other use.

Internet - Not all information accessible on the Internet is accurate, complete, or current. Users are encouraged to properly evaluate the content of Internet materials. Privacy does not exist on the Internet and the library does not guarantee the online privacy of any patron. Academic internet policy follows the recommendations of the American Library Association.

Collection Development and Weeding Policy

Policy goals are to maintain a balanced collection of materials that meet the needs of current faculty and curriculum. Faculty members are expected to help maintain the currency of the collections through material purchase requests and suggestions for disposal of obsolete materials. Acquisitions are made to meet the needs of the administration, faculty, staff and students. Suggestions by students and community patrons are welcomed.

Gift Policy

Donations are welcomed with the understanding that items that cannot be used in the library collections will be returned to the donator if requested or dispersed as best determined by library staff. Where applicable, gift plates acknowledging the donator are placed in gift items unless otherwise requested.

Interlibrary Loan Policy

ILL services are provided for administrators, faculty, staff and students. There is a minimal charge for students and for campus personnel’s personal use.

Privacy Policy

Library records are treated as confidential following the recommendation of the Intellectual Freedom Committee of the American Library Association and the West Virginia Code.
