ENACTUS is an international non-profit organization that works with leaders in business and higher education to mobilize university students to make a difference in their communities while developing the skills to become socially responsible business leaders. Participating students form teams on their university campuses and apply business concepts to develop outreach projects that improve the quality of life and standard of living for people in need. An annual series of regional and national competitions provides a forum for teams to present the results of their projects, and to be evaluated by business leaders serving as judges. National champion teams advance to the prestigious ENACTUS World Cup. In addition to the community aspect of the program, ENACTUS’s leadership and career initiatives create meaningful opportunities for learning and exchange among the participants as well as the placement of students and alumni with companies in search of emerging talent.
To bring together the top leaders of today and tomorrow to create a better, more sustainable world through the positive power of business.
GSC’s ENACTUS Mission
ENACTUS of Glenville State College’s mission is to implement projects that will improve the livelihood options for individuals residing in and around the community through the team members’ use of business and entrepreneurial skills.
ENACTUS students leverage their classroom experience, the expertise of their faculty advisor and business advisory board, and the resources of their university to develop projects that empower people to live better lives.
Rather than mandating a uniform set of projects, ENACTUS teams are encouraged to address a variety of topics and issues, their primary focus being on effectively empowering people in need by applying business and economic concepts and an entrepreneurial approach to improve their quality of life and standard of living. Because of this approach, ENACTUS teams around the world are helping aspiring entrepreneurs achieve success, equipping the unemployed with skills to find productive employment, teaching families how to gain financial security, and bringing economic development to struggling neighborhoods.
The result is a program that is global in scope and purpose with the flexibility and responsiveness of a community-based organization.
2011 – 2012
Feeding the Family
In the fall of 2011, the ENACTUS team raised money to help those families in need. They raised money through donations to help 3 families with a complete Thanksgiving Day meal. We partnered with a local community service organization to help. The overwhelming support of the GSC community allowed the organization to provide the original 3 meals for Thanksgiving and 3 large hams for Christmas.
In the spring of 2012, the ENACTUS team offered resume and cover letter writing help for the community. The students were available to help community members with their resume and cover letter. We partnered with the Small Business Development Center to offer this service to the community.
2012-2013Learn and Earn
A group of ENACTUS members visited a local high school to discuss owning your own business. The purpose of the project is to spark the development of an entrepreneurial spirit in young children. The ENACTUS members presented a short PowerPoint on the ownership of a business and left the students with a project of their own. They were to develop a business, sell a product, and see how much they can earn. The ENACTUS team will visit the campus again to gauge the success and award prizes.
