GSC High Adventure Program Spring Schedule Released
Glenville State College High Adventure Program Director Dave Bernier has just released the schedule of his program’s trips for the Spring 2013 semester. The program offers GSC students, faculty, staff, and community members the opportunity to experience thrilling outdoor activities in and outside the state.
Six GSC Hidden Promise Scholars Graduate
Six more Glenville State College students have completed the Hidden Promise Scholars Program. They were recognized at the annual December 2012 Hidden Promise Scholar Graduation Dinner and Installation Ceremony held on December 3rd. These students were also recognized at the GSC Senior Recognition Program on Thursday, December 13th and can participate in the 139th GSC Commencement Ceremony on Saturday, May 11, 2013.
Internships Help Many GSC Students Succeed
Glenville State College faculty and students know the importance of internships and how they can lead to careers after college. Many students in different departments across campus have completed internships, and many are still in the midst of their real-world work experience for course credit.
GSC Holiday Premium Night
The public is invited to the Glenville State College Mollohan’s Restaurant on Wednesday, December 12th from 4:30 until 7:00 p.m. for GSC’s Holiday Premium Night.
2012 GSC Homecoming Court Announced
The 2012 Glenville State College Homecoming Court was announced at the annual GSC Coronation Ceremony on October 22nd. The court presided over all the week’s events including the homecoming dance, picnic, bonfire, parade, and football game on October 27th.
GSC Tree Lighting Ceremony Enjoyed by All
The holiday season has officially begun at Glenville State College. GSC President Dr. Peter Barr along with local children lit the official campus Christmas tree at the annual GSC Tree Lighting Ceremony. Many spectators from both GSC and the Glenville community attended the event on Monday, November 26th.
GSC Choir and Chamber Singers Holiday Concert November 27th
The annual Glenville State College Choir and Chamber Singers Holiday Concert is scheduled for Tuesday, November 27th at 7:00 p.m. at Sand Fork Baptist Church in Sand Fork, West Virginia (Gilmer County). The evening will feature Christmas carols written from the 17th century until the 20th century as well as readings from students, faculty, and staff including GSC President Dr. Peter Barr.
GSC Tree Lighting Ceremony November 26th
Glenville State College President Dr. Peter Barr will illuminate the official GSC Christmas Tree during the seventh annual Tree Lighting Ceremony on Monday, November 26th. The event will take place at 4:30 p.m. in the GSC Luanna T. Smith Amphitheatre.
GSC Employee Publishes Second Book on Natural Remedies
A Glenville State College employee has published his second book on the study of medicinal plants, trees, and shrubs in Appalachia. Bill Church wrote Medicinal Plants, Trees, and Shrubs of Appalachia. It is a follow-up to his 2006 publication A Field Guide: Medicinal Plants, Trees, and Shrubs of Appalachia. This new edition covers one-hundred and five different medicinal plants with color photos and descriptions. Each description includes measurements, properties, harvesting information, and usage.
GSC Student Named National Finalist in FFA Contest
Glenville State College sophomore Forest Technology major Kevin Smith has been named one of four national finalists for the National Future Farmers of America (FFA) Agricultural Proficiency Award in Poultry Production – Entrepreneurship/Placement. As a member of the Pendleton County FFA Chapter, he competed for the award at the national finals during the 85th National FFA Convention in Indianapolis, Indiana October 24th through 27th.
