Local community groups, classic car owners, local businesses, marching bands, and others are invited to participate in the 2012 Glenville State College Homecoming Parade. The parade will begin on Saturday, October 27th at 10:00 a.m. in downtown Glenville. The theme for the 2012 GSC Homecoming is ‘Proud to be an American, Proud to be a Pioneer!’
Widely-published and award-winning poet Andrea Hollander Budy will be visiting Glenville State College on Wednesday, October 3rd and Thursday, October 4th.
Faculty and staff from the Glenville State College Department of Athletics are hosting a Pioneer Steak Grill during the 2012 Homecoming festivities.
The public is invited to the Glenville State College Mollohan’s Restaurant on Thursday, September 20th from 4:30 until 7:00 p.m. for GSC’s September ‘Welcome Back’ Premium Night.
Members of the Glenville State College Science Fiction and Fantasy Guild are hosting a series of monster movies that will be shown during the Fall and Spring semesters. The series will feature movies from all eras highlighting the progression of storyline, special effects, computer animation, and director ability.
‘Invironment,’ a work by multimedia sculptor and installation artist Jason Lee, is on display in the Glenville State College Art Gallery. The show opened August 27th and will run until October 11th. Lee incorporates a wide variety of materials and techniques into his oddly humorous constructions and presentations.
Thirty-four members of the Glenville State College Class of 2012 are honor graduates and wore gold honor stoles at the GSC Commencement Ceremony on May 5th.
Glenville State College Head Baseball Coach Tom Gilbert is teaching his players more than how to play baseball. “All my players learn how important it is to give back to their communities to truly see how fortunate they are to be at GSC,” said Gilbert, who also serves as the GSC Nonprofit Leadership Alliance Coordinator.
The Glenville State College Relay For Life team has raised over $3,600 for the American Cancer Society. RFL is an international fundraising event that raises funds for cancer research. The 2012 GSC RFL event was successful thanks to the efforts of a GSC staff advisor, four committee members, and four teams.
Gilmer County native Jessica Montgomery, a Glenville State College freshman Chemistry major with a Biology minor, has been awarded the Helen Shaw Memorial Scholarship for the Fall 2012 and Spring 2013 semesters.
