Glenville, WV – The Glenville State Men’s Basketball coaching staff and head coach Stephen Dye are excited to announce the signing of the Rhode Island Gatorade State Player of the Year Jarell Lawson, from Central High School in Providence, RI.

Lawson led the Knights to a 19-4 record and the Open State Tournament championship this past season. He averaged 19.0 points, 10.9 rebounds, 2.0 blocks, 1.5 assists and 1.0 steals per game. A unanimous First Team All-Division I selection, Lawson was a Rhode Island Basketball Coaches Association All-Star. He recorded 16 points, 12 rebounds, three assists, two steals and two blocks in the state-title win over Hope (Providence, R.I.).

Lawson is a 6’5 G/F with great length and athletic ability. He can play any position on the floor at any given moment. He can bring the ball up the court, shoot the three, or play in the post as well. “Jarell immediately brings us a winning mentality having won his State Championship this season along with many other accolades,” said Coach Dye. “He also provides great length and the ability to score in many different ways.”

The addition of Jarell fits perfectly with the recruits already announced by Coach Dye and his staff. Glenville State has now announced 5 new Pioneer basketball players and have plans to announce a few more this week.

Glenville State College head basketball coach Stephen Dye would like to announce some new additions to his program

Glenville, WV – Glenville State College head basketball coach Stephen Dye would like to announce some new additions to his program. In addition to Joe Ballard and DJ Blanks who were announced earlier in the signing period, Coach Dye and staff have added two more to the list.

Tyler Persaud, a 6’7 Guard/Forward, comes to the Pioneers from Kiski Prep Academy in PA. “Tyler is a long and athletic player that can play several positions for us”, says Coach Dye. “He has the ability to really get to the basket as well as play from the perimeter”, Dye continued. “We are very excited to have Tyler joining our program and know he has a bright future at GSC.” While at Kiski, Tyler helped lead the Cougars to a 23-6 record against some very good Prep school programs across the nation.

The Pioneer program is also pleased to announce the signing of Lamont Cole from Edison Community College in Ohio. At 6’3 Lamont brings great size and length as well as experience to the guard position for a very young returning GSC program. “He can score the ball in many different ways and knows how to play the game. We expect Lamont to be a big part of the 2012-13 season”, said Coach Dye. While at Edison CC, Lamont started all 26 games and averaged 15 ppg, 4.5 rpg, 3apg, and 2.5 blocks. He was named to 2011-12 All Tournament 1st Team and was Honorable Mention All-OCCAC. Lamont was Team MVP for Edison CC.

The Glenville State coaching staff is extremely excited with these additions. “Both of these young men have shown great basketball ability as well as character and that’s what we want here at GSC,” said Coach Dye.
