Baseball Team Falls in Home Opener

Jeremy Tindell went 2 for 3 with 3 RBI’s in the Pioneers loss to Shawnee

Glenville, WV- The Glenville State College Pioneer baseball team returned to the diamond on March 7th, 2012 for the first time since 1982 at the Sue Morris Complex as they battled Shawnee State in their home opener of the 2012 season.

The Pioneers got on the board first when designated hitter Ronald Loy hit a double scoring Philip Longecker and Heath Swisher in the bottom of the first as GSC took a 2-0 lead.

 Shawnee State would get on the board in the top of the second when Colin Keim hit a home single but Shawnee would score two more runs when Xander Uxley hit a two run homerun as he scored Adam Wamsley as they took a 2-3 lead.

Shawnee State would break the game wide open in the top of the fourthas they scored six runs. Aaron Suydam hit a single scoring Xander Uxley and Adam Wamsley. Later Quentin Everman would hit a double scoring Aaron Suydam. Also in the inning Shawnee would have Tyler Weisel, Quentin Everman, and Justin Marrero all score as they took a commanding lead 2-9.

GSC would try to get back into the game as they would score four runs in the bottom of the seventh but it wouldn’t be enough as Shawnee went on to claim a 10-25 win over the Pioneers.

Jeremy Tindell went 2 for 3 with 3 RBI’s while Ronald Loy went 1 for 2 with 2 RBI’s. Also for GSC Heath Swisher went 3 for 6 with an RBI and scored 3 runs. Tyler Reid went 2 for 5 with an RBI and scored a run.

Aaron Suydam went 3 for 7 with 5 RBI’s and scored 2 runs. Also for Shawnee State Quentin Everman went 3 for 7 with 4 RBI’s and scored 2 runs.

Ian Morris pitched 3.1 innings for GSC as he allowed 8 hits, 9 runs, and walked 3 batters. Steven Miller pitched 2.2 innings as he allowed eight hits, 5 runs, and walked 2 batters.

For Shawnee State Ryan Hackworth pitched 7 innings allowing 12 hits, 9 runs, and walked 3 batters.

The Pioneers return to action Tuesday, March 13th when they travel to Wheeling Jesuit for a double header. Game time starting at 1:00 PM.
