Baseball Picks Up Win Over Salem

Salem, WV – On Monday afternoon after a one hour and fifteen minute rain delay the Pioneer baseball team picked up their first win of the 2012 season with a 5-3 win over Salem International.

The Salem Tigers got on the score board first in the bottom of the second inning when Elliott Swiatly singled to right field as Kenneth Minor scored as Salem took a 0-1 lead.

Salem would add to their lead in the bottom of the fourth when Charles Rymers would score on a baulk from Jeremy Tindell, making the score 0-2.

The Pioneers would get on the score board in the top of the six as Heath Swisher doubled down the left field line scoring Will Lilly as GSC cut the score to 1-2.

The Tigers would eventually be up 1-3, after they scored another run in the bottom of the seventh, but the Pioneers bats would come alive as they scored four runs in the bottom of the eighth inning.

Swisher again would single to second base as Ronald Loy would score, making it 2-3. Later in the inning Ethan Zabo would hit a single up the middle as he drove in Darrien Hudson and Will Lilly putting the Pioneers up 4-2.

The Pioneers would score one more run as Swisher would score on an error by the Tigers giving GSC a 5-3 lead.

The Pioneers defense would hold the Tigers bats in check as GSC would hold on to 5-3 victory.

Heath Swisher went three for five with two RBI’s and scored a run. Ronald Loy went two for four and scored a run, while Will Lilly went two for three and scored two runs.

The Tigers were led by Nicholas Arena as he went two for two and scored one run. Elliott Swiatly went one for three with an RBI.

Tucker Abruzzino pitched 3.1 innings as he allowed three hits, two runs, and walked four batters. Jeremy Tindell also pitched 3.1 innings as he gave up four hits, one run, and walked one batter. While Chris Napp went 2.1 inning allowing no hits, no runs, and no walks.

Joshua Karlin pitched 7.1 innings for the Tigers as he allowed seven hits, and five runs.

The Pioneers return to action Wednesday, March 21st when West Liberty travels to Glenville for a double header. Game time is set for 1:00 PM.
