Glenville, WV – Plans are being made for the first Appalachia Trading Company in Glenville next month. The two-day event will celebrate Appalachian culture on Friday, April 13th and Saturday, April 14th on the campus of Glenville State College and in downtown Glenville.
Festivities include a pie bake-off on the 13th with winners being announced that night at the square dance (with caller Mack Samples and a dance band) in the GSC Mollohan Campus Community Center Ballroom. An Appalachian Extravaganza is scheduled to be held on the 14th at 7:00 p.m. in the GSC Fine Arts Center Auditorium and will feature performances by Gandydancer, Retro and Smiling, and John Lilly’s Hank Williams Senior Tribute Show. Other ATC events include a poster contest, a cast-iron cook-off, and an Appalachian photo exhibit as well as several demonstrations including quilting, basket making, and glass blowing.
ATC Project Director Tashua Allman says all of the events are free to the public thanks to a state grant awarded to GSC. “We are very thankful to the West Virginia Humanities Council for giving this money to Glenville State College so we can plan this event for everyone to enjoy,” said Allman.
