Baseball Team Sweeps West Liberty

Tyler Reid pitched three innings allowing no hits, no runs, and struck out three batters in the Pioneers sweep over West Liberty

Glenville, WV – On a beautiful Wednesday afternoon in Gilmer County the Glenville State College Pioneer baseball team swept a two game series from West Liberty.

In game one, the Pioneers got on the board first in the bottom of the second when Heath Swisher hit a single scoring Will Lilly putting GSC up 1-0. Also in the bottom of the second the Pioneers would see Philip Longecker hit a three run homerun as GSC took a 4-0 lead.

West Liberty would score three runs in the top of the third as they cut into the Pioneers lead 4-3.

GSC would answer back in the bottom of the third when Ronald Loy hit a single driving in Steven Miller making it 5-3.

West Liberty however would cut the lead to one in the top of the fourth when Mike Johnson homered making the score 5-4.

The Pioneers would eventually go on to win by a score of 6-4 as they added another run in the bottom of the six as Darrien Hudson scored on a wild pitch.  

Darrien Hudson went two for three and scored two runs while Philip Longecker went one for three with three RBI’s(three run homerun), and scored one run.

Ian Morris pitched 4 four innings as he allowed four hits, four runs, and struck out two batters. Tyler Reid pitched three innings allowing no hits, no runs, and struck out three batters.

In game two it was much of the same story as GSC would score first in the bottom of the first inning when Ethan Zabo hit a ground ball to second base scoring Heath Swisher putting the Pioneers up 1-0.

The Pioneers added to their lead in the second when Chris Knapp grounded to the pitcher scoring Ronald Loy making it 2-0 GSC.

GSC would score again in the fifth as Philip Longecker singled, driving in John Royce making the score 3-0.

West Liberty would find their bats in the top of the sixth inning when they scored three runs as they tied the game up at 3-3 all.

But the Pioneers would score the winning run in the bottom of the six as Steven Miller hit a deep homerun giving GSC the win 4-3.

Philip Longecker went two for three with one RBI while Steven Miller went one for three with a homerun and an RBI.

Brock McClung pitched 5 innings as he allowed three hits, three runs, and had one strike out. Chris Napp pitched one inning as he allowed one hit, no runs, and walked two batters.

The Pioneers return to action Saturday, March 24th when Concord travels to Glenville for a double header. Game time is set for 1:00 PM.
