Mercyhurst got on the scoreboard in the bottom of the first inning when Zak Blair hit a sac fly to left field as he scored Kolin McMillen as they took a 0-1 lead.
Mercyhurst added two runs in the bottom of the fourth inning when Jake Marinelli hit a two RBI single which scored Matt Adamczyk and Ryan Siegel as they took a 0-3 lead.
Mercyhurst added two other run in the bottom of the fifth inning as they went up on top of the Pioneers 0-5.
The Pioneers would score in the top of the eighth inning as Tucker Abruzzino scored on a passed ball but that’s the only run GSC would score as they fell to Mercyhurst by a final of 1-5.
The Pioneers only recorded four hits in the game while Mercyhurst recorded nine.
Tucker Abruzzino went one for four and scored the Pioneers only run. Will Lilly, John Royce, and Tyler Reid all recorded one hit in the game.
Ian Morris pitched eight innings as he allowed nine hits, five runs, walked five batters, and struck out five batters.
Andrew Fitzpatrick went two for three with one RBI for Mercyhurst while teammate Jake Marinelli went one for three and had two RBI’s.
Matthew Jimenez pitched five innings as he allowed one hit, no runs, walked two batters, and struck out four batters.
The Pioneers return to action Wednesday, March 28th when they travel to Alderson-Broaddus for a WVIAC double header. Game time is set for 1:00 PM.
