GSC Splits With Pitt-Johnstown

Ethan Szabo went three for three and scored a run as the Pioneers split a double header with Pitt-Johnstown

Glenville, WV – On Tuesday afternoon the Glenville State baseball team battled the Pitt-Johnstown Mountain Cats and split a double header at the Sue Morris Sports Complex.

In the first game the Mountain Cats got on the board first when Mike Palkovitz popped up to right field for an easy out but Ethan Szabo made an error as Zach Vignero scored as Pitt-Johnstown went up 0-1 in the top of the first inning.

The Mountain Cats would add three more runs in the top of the third as they took a 0-4 lead over the Pioneers.

GSC would get on the score board in the bottom of the third when Brock McClung hit a solo homerun as the Pioneers pulled within three 1-4.

But the Mountain Cats proved to be too much for the Pioneers as Pitt-Johnstown added three more runs in the fourth inning as they downed GSC 1-7.

The Pioneers only recorded four hits in the game while Pitt-Johnstown had 12 hits.

Brock McClung went one for three with a solo homerun. Will Lilly went one for two while Tucker Abruzzino went one for three in the game.

Tyler Reid pitched all seven innings for GSC as he allowed 12 hits, seven runs, and struck out three batters.

In game two, the Pioneers scored first in the bottom of the first inning when Ian Morris hit an RBI single as Ethan Szabo scored, later in the first Brock McClung hit an RBI as Philip Longnecker scored putting GSC up 2-0.

The Mountain Cats would score in the top of the third inning as they cut the lead to 2-1, but that’s as close as they would get as the Pioneers went on to win 2-1.

Ethan Szabo went three for three and scored a run, Ian Morris went one for three with an RBI, and Steven Miller went one for three.

Chris Knapp pitched the whole game for GSC as he gave up six hits, one run, and struck out five batters.
