Fairmont, WV – The Glenville State Pioneer baseball team dropped a pair of games on Tuesday afternoon to Fairmont State in game one, 2-10 and in game two, 7-8.
In game one, Fairmont State would score the first ten points.
The Pioneers would get their bats moving in the top of the seventh inning as John Royce hit an RBI single as Ian Morris scored. Later in the inning Heath Swisher would fly out to left field as Ronnie Loy crossed home plate. But it wasn’t enough as GSC fell 2-10 in game one.
Both teams recorded nine hits in the game but the Pioneers had two errors while FSU had none.
John Royce went two for two and had an RBI for GSC, while Heath Swisher went one for three and had an RBI.
Tucker Abruzzino pitched four innings as he allowed eight hits, nine runs, and struck out three batters.
In the second game of the double header, the Pioneers took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning when Brock McClung grounded out to the short stop but not before Heath Swisher scored.
The Falcons would tie it a 1 all in the bottom of the first when Funk hit a solo home-run.
Fairmont State would add to their lead in the bottom of the second as they went up 1-3 over GSC.
But the Pioneers would cut the lead to one in the top of the third when Brock McClung hit an RBI single, Philip Longnecker scored making it 2-3.
The Pioneers would tie the game up at 4 apiece in top of the fourth inning when Philip Longnecker hit two run home-run’s. Heath Swisher scored as well.
But Fairmont State would come right back and take the lead again in bottom of the fourth, 4-5.
GSC would then retake a 7-5 lead in the top of the sixth inning when Ethan Szabo hit an RBI double up the middle as Heath Swisher and Darrien Hudson scored. Philip Longnecker would also score in the inning.
But the Pioneers would fall in game two when the Falcons scored two runs in the bottom of the seventh and add another in the bottom of the ninth inning as GSC fell 7-8.
Philip Longnecker led GSC as he went three for five with two RBI’s and scored three runs. Ethan Szabo went two for four and had two RBI’s, while Brock McClung went one for three but had three RBI’s.
Tyler Reid pitched six innings allowing nine hits, seven runs, and struck out four batters.
The Pioneers will return to the diamond Tuesday, April 11th when the Point Park Pioneers travel to Glenville for a double header. Game one is set for 2:00pm.
