Glenville, WV – On a wet and rainy Wednesday afternoon the Glenville State Pioneers baseball team dropped a pair of games to the Seton Hill Griffins.
In game one, the Griffins would be the first to score in the top of the first when Pat McCarthy would hit a high fly ball to Ethan Szabo for an easy out, but Szabo would have an error as he dropped it letting the Griffin’s ,Nick Erminio, cross the plate making it 1-0.
Seton Hill would add to their lead in the top of the second, when Nick Defilippi hit a two run homerun as he and Cody Herald scored making it 3-0 Griffins.
The Pioneers would get on the board in the bottom of the second, when Brock McClung would hit a solo homerun pulling GSC within two 1-3.
However, Seton Hill would come right back and bust the game wide open in the top of the third when they scored three runs, putting them up 6-1.
GSC, however, would pull within two in the bottom of the fifth when Philip Longnecker hit a three run homerun, scoring both Ethan Szabo and Steven Miller, making it 4-6 Seton Hill.
The Griffins would score three more runs in the sixth inning as they went up 9-4 on GSC.
The Pioneers would try to tie it up in the bottom of the seventh but could not find their bats as Seton Hill held on to a 9-4 victory.
Both teams recorded eight hits in the game, but the Pioneers had three errors while Seton Hill had two.
Philip Longnecker led GSC in batting as he went two for four with three RBI’s and scored a run. Brock McClung went one for three with an RBI.
Ian Morris pitched five innings allowing seven hits, nine runs, and struck out one batter.
In the second game of the double header, the Pioneers would get three quick outs, as Seton Hill went one- two- three, in the top of the first inning. In the bottom of the second. GSC would score two runs when Heath Swisher scored on a wild pitch, then Brock McClung would hit a RBI single as Ethan Szabo scored making it 2-0 Pioneers.
Seton Hill would tie it at 2-2 in the top of the second when Nate Defilippi hit a two RBI single as Jackson Boyd and Jeff Simon both crossed the plate.
In the top of the fifth inning, the Griffins would score five runs as they took a 7-2 lead over the Pioneers.
Seton Hill would continue the good hitting when they added two more runs in the sixth inning as they went on to beat the Pioneers 9-2.
Brock McClung led GSC as he went one for two with an RBI while Ethan Szabo went two for four and scored a run.
Steven Miller pitched four innings for the Pioneers as he gave up five hits, seven runs, and struck out one batter.
The Pioneers return to action Saturday, April 21st when they travel to West Virginia State for a double header. Game one is set for 12:00pm.
