Glenville, WV – On senior day and a beautiful Friday afternoon the GSC Lady Pioneers softball team hosted the University of Charleston Golden Eagles for a double header.
In game one, neither team could find their early bats as we went into the second inning tied at 0-0.
The Golden Eagles however would strike first in the top of the second when Logan Tretick scored on a sacrifice fly from Ayla Santos as they took an 1-0 led.
The University of Charleston would have a huge third inning as they scored five runs taking a 6-0 led over the Lady Pioneers.
GSC would strike back in the bottom of the third when Kayleigh Huck hit a three run homerun as Courtney Rzepka and Carly Caldon both scored as the Lady Pioneers cut the lead to 6-3.
The Lady Pioneers would then get three quick outs as Charleston went one-two-three in the top of the fourth.
GSC would add a run in the bottom of the fifth when Emily Fultz walked Katelyn Porter with the bases loaded as the Lady Pioneers would cut into UC’s lead to two 6-4.
But the Lady Pioneers could score two runs as they fell to Charleston 6-4.
GSC had 10 hits in the game while UC had 13 hits.
Kayleigh Huck went one for four with a three run homerun while Carly Caldon went three for four and scored two runs.
Brittany May pitched all seven innings as she allowed 13 hits, six runs, and struck out three batters.
In the second game of the double header, the Golden Eagles took an early 4-0 lead in the top of the second inning.
Charleston would add two more runs in the top of the third when Micki Murzynski hit a two run homerun as Ayla Santos scored putting UC up 6-0.
The Lady Pioneers would get on the score board in the bottom of the fifth when Morgan Scarpellini hit a two run homerun as Meagan Lesser crossed the plate as GSC cut into the lead, making it 6-2 UC.
GSC could not find their bats as they fell in game two to UC 6-2.
Morgan Scarpellini went two for three with a two RBI’s while Meagen Lesser went two for three and scored a run.
Meagen Lesser pitched two innings allowing eight hits, four runs, and struck out one batter. Brittany May pitched four innings as she gave up four hits, no runs, and struck out one batter.
The Lady Pioneers return to action Sunday, April 22nd when West Virginia State travels to Glenville for a double header. Game time is set for 1:00 pm.
