Glenville, WV – The Glenville State baseball team battled Ohio Valley at Sue Morris complex on Saturday afternoon.
In game one, both teams struggled early on to find their offense, but Ohio Valley would strike first in the top of the fifth inning when Clay Ullman hit a sacrifice fly as Marlon Bellmas scored making it 1-0, OVU.
The Scots would add to their lead in the top of the sixth when Justin Whaton scored on an error putting OVU up, 2-0.
The Pioneers would come back and in the bottom of the sixth as they scored three runs. After a base hit by Will Lilly, Ethan Szabo came to the plate and hit a homerun knotting the game at 2-2. But later in the inning Steven Miller would also hit a homerun as GSC took a 3-2 lead.
In the top of the seventh the Scots would load the bases with two outs but the Pioneers would get them to ground out to Heath Swisher at second base as the Pioneers won game one, 3-2.
Ethan Szabo went three for three with a two RBI homerun, while Steven Miller went one for three with a homerun.
Brock McClung pitched all seven innings as he allowed six hits, two runs, and struck out two batters.
The second game of the double header was rained out. The teams will play tomorrow Sunday, April 29th at 2:00pm.
