Glenville, WV – Glenville State College Head Football coach David Hutchison has finalized his staff for the 2012 football season.
Johnnie Morton comes to GSC as the new wide receiver coach for the Pioneers. Jonnie was a decorated wide receiver in the NFL, spending his career with the Detroit Lions, the Kansas City Chiefs, and the San Francisco 49ers. Morton is in the top 50 all-time leading receivers in the history of the NFL with 624 receptions for 8,719 yards and 43 touchdowns. Before his NFL career he was a four year starter and an All-American wide receiver at the University of Southern California (USC) where he added a Rose Bowl Championship and Freedom Bowl MVP to his accomplishments. Morton earned a degree in communication from USC in 1993. Most recently, Johnnie was the Offensive Coordinator/Wide Receivers Coach at South High School in Torrance, California. “Obviously Coach Morton brings an unbelievable amount of experience as a player to our staff, his excitement and drive to be a great coach will be a huge asset to our program,” stated Coach Hutchison.
Milo Austin enters his first season on the Pioneer football staff as the new running backs coach. Milo is a former wide receiver at West Virginia University, where he was a letter-winner on the 2004 Big East Championship team. Since obtaining his Bachelor’s degree from WVU he has had coaching stops coaching running backs at Midwestern State University, Hampton University, and Montana State University. Milo has most recently served on the University of Cincinnati football staff from June 2010 to July 2011 as the Director of Player Development. “Coach Austin brings a wealth of experience coaching the running back position. He has been very highly recommended and will be huge in the development our young running back group,” said Coach Hutchison.
Matt Porter who was one of the 2011 senior captains has decided to switch roles and become a member of the Pioneer staff. He has been hired as the video coordinator and will also coach on the defensive side of the ball. He will be graduating from GSC in May 2012 with a degree in Business Marketing. Matt was 4 year letter winner on Football team while starting the last two. He also was an All-Conference track athlete while at Glenville as a thrower. “Matt has been an integral part of the GSC family for a long time, he will do a great job for us in his new role,” stated Coach Hutchison.
The Pioneers open up the 2012 season on the road Thursday, August 30th against Carson-Newman at 7:00pm. Their first home game is Thursday, September 6th against Fairmont State at 7:00pm.
