Glenville, WV—The 2012-2013 academic year for Glenville State College will begin this weekend as students will arrive this in preparation for the first day of classes on Monday, August 20th.

Move-in day for new students will be Friday, August 17th. Beginning at 8 a.m. students will be allowed to move into their rooms at Goodwin Hall or Pioneer Village. New students will receive plenty of move-in help thanks to a Glenville State College tradition. Many members of the GSC faculty and staff will be on hand to help students and their parents with the task of carrying their belonging from their vehicles to the rooms that will be their homes for the next nine months.

Once again, Glenville State College will experience an increase in enrollment. Over nineteen-hundred students are expected to be registered for the fall semester with over four-hundred of them being freshmen or transfer students. This marks the fifth consecutive year that GSC overall enrollment has grown.

The increased enrollment also means an increase in the number of students who will be living in the residence halls. For the first time since the late 70s, over six-hundred students will be living on campus.

“The return of the students each year is almost like Christmas for me. I get excited each year to meet the young men and women that will make GSC their home for the next four years. I love the opportunity to help mold and shape their futures and to help them become successful. How can you not get excited about that,” said Jerry Burkhammer, GSC Director of Student Affairs.

Friday afternoon will be filled with orientation activities for the students and parents including the annual GSC Matriculation Convocation at 3:15 p.m. in the Fine Arts Auditorium which officially welcomes them into the Pioneer family with the reciting of the academic oath of excellence. The orientation process for new students will continue throughout the day on Saturday.

Upperclassmen will return to campus on Sunday, August 19th. The big event on Sunday will be the Campus Picnic and Community Fair from 4:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. on the Clark Hall lawn. Community businesses, churches, and organizations are invited to set up displays to introduce and promote themselves to the students through the use of coupons, gift certificates, free samples, and information. This is a great opportunity to introduce these new Pioneers to what the community can offer them during their experience at Glenville State College.

The return of the students not only is welcome on campus but also throughout the Glenville community where the influx of students will invigorate the local economy. Many local businesses add welcome back students messages to their s signs and windows.

There is still time for prospective students to enroll for the fall semester at GSC. For more information, contact the Admissions Department at www.glenville.edu or call (304) 462-6130 or toll free at 800-924-2010.
