CHARLESTON, W.Va. –Governor Earl Ray Tomblin today asked West Virginians to wear the colors or apparel of their favorite college or university on Friday, October 5, 2012 in celebration of West Virginia’s ‘College Colors Day.’ College Colors Day is the finale to the statewide ‘College Application and Exploration Week’ initiative, which seeks to encourage West Virginians to explore higher education opportunities and submit college applications.

Last week, Tomblin issued a proclamation designating October 1 through 5, 2012 as ‘College Application and Exploration Week’ across the State.

“The 21st century economy demands advanced skills and higher learning. The pursuit of post-secondary education should be a top priority for all of our state’s students. I encourage all West Virginians to wear their favorite college or university gear and show their support for our students’ educational aspirations,” said Governor Tomblin

College Application and Exploration Week is a national campaign to expand access to post-secondary education. West Virginia’s College Application and Exploration Week effort is coordinated by the College Foundation of West Virginia (CFWV), a statewide college-planning outreach initiative. CFWV is led by the West Virginia Higher Education Policy Commission in conjunction with the West Virginia Council for Community and Technical College Education, the West Virginia Department of Education and the West Virginia Department of Education and the Arts.
