Glenville, WV—Several Glenville State College basketball players took advantage of a recent beautiful autumn day to get a ‘jump’ on playing on the new arena floor in the Waco Center, under construction on Mineral Road. These players will join their teammates in the completed center for the 2013-2014 basketball season.

Construction worker John Sharpes, a former Glenville State College student, tosses the ball on future Waco Center floor. Players pictured left to right; sophomore Jamel Morris of Columbus, Ohio, freshman Andre Jackson of Baltimore, Maryland, junior Dashawna Carey of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and freshman Briauna Nix of Toledo, Ohio.

The Waco Center will feature a 3,000 seat arena for sports, concerts, conferences, and other events, an expanded facility for GSC’s Land Resources department, as well as provide space for a medical center. BBL Carlton is the lead contractor for the facility. They are the same contractors that completed the Goodwin Hall, GSC’s newest residence hall on campus, two years ago.

The precast walls are in place for the main entrance rotunda (pictured below) and the eventual arena floor has been rolled smooth and is ready for the concrete pad to be poured.

There is still time for donors to be recognized with naming opportunities in the center. If you have an interest in joining in the fund raising for this important part of Glenville State’s future, contact the Glenville State College Foundation at (304)-462-6380 or email for a listing of naming opportunities.
