Buckhannon, WV – The Glenville State Pioneer football team went on the road Saturday, October 20th and picked up a huge WVIAC Conference win over West Virginia Wesleyan, 28-21.
Both teams struggled offensively in the first quarter as they both ended up scoreless at the end of the first quarter, 0-0.
The West Virginia Wesleyan Bobcats would strike first at the 14:46 mark in the second quarter when Lavaughn Hughes returned a punt 49 yards giving the Bobcats the early led at 7-0.
The Pioneers scored on a 10 yard pass from Justin Feagin to Darian Cleckley, tying it up at 7-7, after a blocked punt by GSC’s Jake Harper.
The Pioneers and Bobcats would head into halftime deadlocked at 7-7.
At the start of the third quarter GSC’s Rahmann Lee would break loss for a 46 yard touchdown run as the Pioneers took a 14-7 lead.
West Virginia Wesleyan would score at the 13:48 mark of the fourth quarter on a 1 yard touchdown pass from Nate Montana to Devin Simmons, but the Bobcats would miss the point after as the Pioneers still held a 14-13 lead.
However, the Pioneers were not finished on offense when Rahmann Lee scored again this time from 28 yards out, putting GSC up 21-13.
The Pioneers added to their lead, making it 28-13, as Rahmann Lee scored his third touchdown of the day from 3 yards out.
The Bobcats scored another late touchdown to make it 28-21, but the Pioneers would walk away victorious.
The Pioneers outgained the Bobcats on the ground 169 yards to 43 yards.
West Virginia Wesleyan ran 86 total plays for 475 yards while GSC ran 60 plays for 262 total yards.
Both teams had a total of 8 penalties on the day, while GSC tallied 70 yards the Bobcats totaled 55 yards.
Rahmann Lee rushed for 147 yards on 19 carries and had 3 touchdowns.
Justin Feagin went 10 for 26 for 93 yards and a touchdown, while Robert Jiles cacught 4 passes for 52 yards. Rahmann Lee caught 4 passes for 23 yards. Darian Cleckley caught only 2 passes for 18 yards but had a big touchdown for GSC.
Adrian Davis led the GSC defense with 9.5 tackles, with one coming for a loss. Freshman James Johnson had 9 tackles on the day.
Malcolm Yowk led the Bobcats on the ground with 41 yards on 14 carries.
Nate Montana went 37 for 64 for 432 yards and 2 touchdowns. Chase Blackwell caught 12 passes for 134 yards and a touchdown while Devin Simmons caught 9 balls for 88 yards and a touchdown.
Mike Peat led the defense with 7 tackles while Jonas Celian had 6 tackles on the day
The Pioneers return to action next Saturday, October 27th at home for Homecoming as the University of Charleston Golden Eagles come calling. Kickoff is set for 1:30 pm.
