Pioneer Football Team Battles the University of Charleston this Saturday

Glenville, WV – The Glenville State Pioneers football team will battle the University of Charleston this Saturday, for GSC’s Homecoming, in a huge WVIAC Conference matchup. The winner of this game will be tied for first place in the WVIAC Conference with the Shpeherd University Rams.

The Pioneers 4-4 (4-1) Glenville State has won back-to-back games, both of which have been league contests. The squad is coming off a 28-21 win at West Virginia Wesleyan. In the win, Rahmann Lee rushed for 147 yards and three touchdowns to lead the way. Justin Feagin threw a touchdown pass to Darian Cleckley. Adrian Davis, James Johnson and Terry Reese each had 10 total tackles. Davis had nine solo stops, had a tackle for loss and recovered a fumble. He also had four pass break-ups.

The #25 University of Charleston 7-1 (4-1) has reeled off four straight wins and is coming off a 27-14 win at West Liberty. The Golden Eagles have won three straight WVIAC games. Charleston was paced by Jordan Roberts’ 180 rushing yards and his two touchdowns on the ground. John Knox also had a touchdown run. Shaq Williams caught five passes for 61 yards. Matt Kelly paced the defense with a team-best nine stops. He also recovered a fumble and had a pass breakup. Isaiah Gibson and Andrew Okokhere each had an interception.

The Pioneers verse the Golden Eagles has been named the Game of the Week by the WVIAC Conference.

This game will also feature the WVIAC top two running backs with Jordan Roberts and Rahmann Lee. Robert is the conference leading ruhers with 166 carries for 1,068 yards and 11 touchdowns. He is also averaging 6.4 yards per carry while he is averaging 133.5 yards per game.Lee is second in thw WVIAC with 136 carries for 888 yards and 8 touchdowns. He is averaging 6.5 yards per carry and 111.0 yards per game.

Last season the Pioneers lost at the University of Charleston 46-36.
