Lady Pioneers are Victorious over Virginia Union, Men Drop First Game of the Season to Gannon

 

Glenville, WV – The Glenville State Lady Pioneers basketball team picked up their first win of the 2012-13 season after they defeated Virginia Union, 90-83 in the GSC Tip-off Classic.

Ginny Mills led the Lady Pioneers with a game high 23 points; she also grabbed five rebounds, and had three steals on the night.

Kenyell Goodson dropped 20 points in the ladies victory. Kenyona Simmons had a double double on the night in her first game as a Lady Pioneer as she scored 15 points and had 11 rebounds.

Jelena Elez scored only three points but dished out six assists in the game. LaToya Hambrick grabbed a game high 13 rebounds.

Virginia Union was led by Melyse Brown and Ashle Freeman as they both scored 16 points in the game. Danielle Ferguson chipped in with 14 points. Melsye Brown also grabbed nine rebounds.

The Lady Pioneers only shot 31 percent from the floor while Virginia Union shot 43 percent. Virginia Union also outshot GSC from behind the three point line as they shot 43 percent to 29 percent.

The Lady Pioneers return to action tomorrow night as they take Edinboro University at 7:00 pm. West Liberty will take on Virginia Union at 5:00 pm.

The Glenville State men’s team fell to Gannon University 67-70, in the OVU Classic Friday night.

Jamel Morris led the Pioneers with 19 points, he also grabbed a team high five rebounds and dished out three assists.

Kevin Gray and DJ Blanks both scored 10 points each in the game.

Lamont Cole also had a nice game for GSC as he scored seven points and grabbed five rebounds.

Darrell Blanton scored a game high 21 points for Gannon, he also grabbed seven rebounds. Adam Blazek scored 11 points and grabbed nine rebounds in the game while Robert Wilson chipped n with 10 points.

The men return to action tomorrow when they take on Millersville. Tip-off is set for 2:00 pm.
