Glenville, WV – The Glenville State Lady Pioneers basketball team won a thriller in front of a packed Jesse R. Lilly Gymnasium as they defeated the University of Charleston Golden Eagles, 87-84.
In the first half GSC got down by eight points as Charleston built a 28-20 lead with 8:06 left to play till halftime.
However, the Lady Pioneers would make a late run and head to halftime with a 10 point lead, 46-46.
In the second half of play GSC would extend their lead to 14 points, 68-54 with 10:12 left to play. But the Golden Eagles would make a strong comeback and end up tying the game at 84 all with 37 seconds left to play.
On the Lady Pioneers next possession Head Coach Bunky Harkleroad would draw up a terrific play as Ginny Mills would drill a deep three pointer from the left corner as the Lady Pioneers would win a thriller, 87-84.
GSC won the rebounding battle as they out rebounded Charleston 70 to 46.
Ashleigh Fossett led the Lady Pioneers in scoring with a game high 29 points as she hit nine three pointers on the evening.
Ginny Mills chipped in with 16 points and the game winning shot. Ginny also pulled down nine rebounds. Kenyona Simmons was the only other Lady Pioneer that scored in double figures as she finished with 14 points and nine rebounds.
Charleston was led Jessi Cowden as she finished with 25 points while LeAnne Ross scored 17 points and grabbed six rebounds.
The Lady Pioneers return to action this Friday, December 14th when Ohio Valley travels to Glenville. Tip-off is set for 5:30 pm.
