Philippi, WV – After 40 minutes of play and an overtime period the Pioneers came up short as the Alderson-Broaddus Battlers pulled off the win over Glenville State, 99-105.
With only 9 seconds left in the game, GSC’s Kevin Gray hit a huge three pointer tying the game up at 91 all and forcing overtime between the Pioneers and Battlers.
But the Pioneers were out scored 14 to 8 in the overtime period as the Pioneers fell on the road to Alderson-Broaddus 99-105.
Jamel Morris led the Pioneers as he scored a game high 30 points and had five rebounds.
Lamar Mallory had a good game as he scored 19 points and also pulled down five rebounds.
Freshman DJ Blanks added 16 points in the loss and handed out four assists while JJ Vazquez chipped in with 11 points.
The Battlers had five players score in double figures with O’Dell Eargle leading the way with 23 points while Casey Ainslie added 20 points.
The Pioneers were out-rebounded by Alderson-Broaddus 40 to 23. The Battlers also won the battle in the paint as they outscored GSC 36 to 16.
Alderson-Broaddus also scored 33 second chance points while the Pioneers only scored 7.
The Pioneers, however, did have a better shooting percentage than the Battlers. GSC finished the game shooting 57 percent from the floor and 61 percent from behind the arc while Alderson-Broaddus finished the game shooting 52 percent from the floor and 30 percent from behind the arc.
The Pioneers return to action Saturday, January 19th when West Virginia State travels to Glenville. All fans also are encouraged to wear blue as its Bleed Blue Day. Game time is set for 4:00pm.
