Glenville, WV – The Glenville State Lady Pioneers improve their winning steak to eight as they defeated the West Virginia State Yellow Jackets in front of a packed house on Saturday, January 19th, 82-75.
GSC jumped out to a quick 7-0 lead at the 18:58 mark in the first half.
The Lady Pioneers would then extend their lead to 11, 30-19 with 10:00 minutes till halftime.
At halftime GSC would have a comfortable lead, 49-37.
In the second half, West Virginia State would battle back and pull within two points, 77-75 with only 1:38 left to play but it wouldn’t be enough as GSC would hit a couple of free throws as they walked away with an 82-75 victory.
The Lady Pioneers defense caused 25 turnovers and converted them into 20 points. GSC also won the rebounding battle 60 to 56.
Kenyona Simmons led the Lady Pioneers with a game high 21 points. Ginny Mills and Kenyell Goodson both chipped in with 12 points.
Tiffani Huffman also had a good game as she scored six points and grabbed six rebounds.
Jessica Parsons led the Lady Pioneers in assists with five while Aesha Peters pulled down a team high seven rebounds.
West Virginia State was led by India Taste and Brittany Holestine as they both scored 17 points in the contest.
The Lady Pioneers move into first place in the WVIAC with the win. They return to action Monday, January 21st when Fairmont State travels to Glenville. Tip-off is set for 5:30pm.
