Glenville, WV – The Glenville State men’s basketball team lost a tough home contest to WVIAC rival Fairmont State Monday night, 78-66.
The Pioneers jumped out to a quick six point lead 8-2 but the Fighting Falcons came right back and took a 20-21 lead.
Fairmont however went on a late run as they took a 32-40 halftime lead.
In the second half, Fairmont would build an 11 point lead, 43-54, at the 12:38 mark.
However, the Pioneers came right back and cut their lead to one, 53-54 as Lamar Mallory hit a jumper.
But that is as close as the Pioneers would get as the Fighting Falcons walked away with a tough road win, 66-78.
The Pioneers scored 20 second chance points while Fairmont only scored 12. GSC also won the rebounding battle as they pulled down 44 rebounds while Fairmont had 31 rebounds.
Kevin Gray led the Pioneers with 19 points. DJ Blanks also had a great game as he scored 18 points, dished out eight assists, and pulled down six rebounds.
Lamar Mallory scored six points and pulled down a game high of 11 rebounds.
Isaac Thornton scored a game high of 24 points, while Isaiah Hill chipped in with 18 points.
The Pioneers return to the court Thursday, January 24th when Bluefield State travels to Jesse R. Lilly Gym. Tip-off is set for 7:30pm.
