Glenville, WV – The Glenville State men’s basketball team suffered a tough home loss to Bluefield State, 75-84.
The Pioneers jumped out to an early nine point lead at the 8:20 mark of the first half, 26-17.
But the Blues would make a run and pull within six points as the Pioneers took a 38-32 lead into halftime.
The Blues would continue their comeback and take their first lead of the second half at the 16:06 mark, 44-45.
Eventually, Bluefield State would build a nine point lead but the Pioneers would continue to fight back and cut the lead to one, 72-73 with 2:36 left in the game.
But that’s as close as the Pioneers would get as Bluefield State would snap a 16 game losing steak as they picked up the victory, 84-75.
The Pioneers were plagued all night by turnovers as they committed 18 in the game. Bluefield State would convert those turnovers into 21 points.
Bluefield State also scored 20 second chance points while the Pioneers only scored five points.
Lamar Mallory scored 17 points to lead the Pioneers. Jamel Morris scored 15 points and handed out a game high six assists.
Kevin Gray chipped in with 14 points while DJ Blanks pulled down a team high seven rebounds.
Bluefield State was led by Roy Cooper as he scored a game high of 22 points.
The Pioneers return to action Monday, January 28th when they travel to Concord. Tip-off is set for 7:30 pm.
