Athens, WV – The Glenville State Lady Pioneers scored a school record 70 points in the first half as they walked away with a huge WVIAC road victory over Concord, 104-67.
GSC opened the game with a deep three-pointer and then went on a 19-0 run as the Lady Pioneers built a 44 point halftime lead.
In the second half, it was all GSC as they continued their terrific play.
The closest that Concord would get would be 37 points, which was at the final score 104-67.
The Lady Pioneers defense caused 28 turnovers and converted them into 36 points. GSC committed only eight turnovers in the game.
The Lady Pioneers also outscored Concord in the paint 31 to 20. GSC’s bench also outscored the Mountain Lions bench, 56 to 27.
The Lady Pioneers finished the game shooting 47 percent from the floor and 47 percent from behind the arc, while Concord shot 40 percent from the floor and only 15 percent from behind the arc.
Ashleigh Fossett scored a game high 25 points as she drilled seven three-pointers in the game; she also handed out a team high of four assists.
Kenyona Simmons scored 15 points in the victory and pulled down a game high nine rebounds.
Kenyell Goodson, this weeks co-WVIAC Player of the Week, chipped in with 11 points while Ginny Mills also chipped in with 11 points.
Jelena Elez had four steals for the Lady Pioneers.
Concord was led by Amanda Smith as she scored 19 points and grabbed six rebounds.
The Lady Pioneers are 17-2 and 12-1 in conference play, they return to action this Thursday, January 31st when they travel to Ohio Valley. Tip-off is set for 5:30 pm.
