Athens, WV – The Glenville State men’s basketball team suffered a tough loss on the road Monday night as they fell to WVIAC opponent Concord, 61-73.
The Pioneers took an early three point lead, 5-3, but Concord would come right back and retake the lead 7-10.
However, the Pioneers would then tie it at 10 all with 13:53 to play in the first half.
However, the Mountain Lions would then go on a run and claim an 11 point halftime lead, 32-21.
In the second half, it was all Concord as the Pioneers could not get over the hump as they fell on the road to the Mountain Lions, 61-73.
The Pioneers only committed 10 turnovers while the GSC defense caused 15 Mountain Lion turnovers.
Concord had a big scoring advantage in the paint as they outscored GSC 40 to 20.
The Pioneers shot 36 percent form the floor while Concord shot 52 percent. Concord shot only 29 percent while GSC out shot the Mountain Lions from behind the arc finishing the game shooting 40 percent.
The Pioneers had three players score in double figures with Jamel Morris scoring a game high 16 points; he also dished out three assists.
Kevin Gray and DJ Blanks both chipped in with 11 points in the game.
Lamar Mallory pulled down a game high nine rebounds.
Concord was led by Thomas Brown with 13 points, while Nick Ruffin scored 12 points for the Mountain Lions.
The Pioneers are now sitting at 9-9 on the season and 6-7 in conference play. They return to action Thursday, January 31st when the travel to Ohio Valley. Game time is set for 7:30 pm.
