Buckhannon, WV – The GSC Men’s basketball squad suffered a tough road loss to the West Virginia Wesleyan Monday night by a final score of, 73-87.
The Pioneers got off to a fast start as they jumped out to a 7-0 lead at the 17:55 mark of the first half. But the Bobcats would come right back and take their first lead at the 14:58 mark, 11-9.
West Virginia Wesleyan would then go on a run and take a 12 point lead into halftime, 36-24.
In the second half, the Bobcats would continue their dominate play as they extended their lead over the Pioneers to 20 points at the 14:00 minute mark of the second half, 54-34.
However, the Pioneers would make a run and cut the Bobcats lead to 10 points, 77-67 with only 2:28 left to play but that’s as close as GSC would get as West Virginia Wesleyan would go on to claim the victory, 87-73.
GSC had 18 turnovers in the loss. The Pioneers saw the Bobcats turn those into 23 points. West Virginia Wesleyan also outscored the Pioneers in the paint 30 to 14.
The Bobcats also shot 51 percent from the floor while GSC only shot 38 percent.
GSC only saw three players score in double figures with Jamel Morris leading the way with 25 points and four rebounds. Kevin Gray scored 16 points in the loss while Andy Dollman came off the bench to score 11 points.
Lamont Cole led GSC in rebounding with five in the game.
West Virginia Wesleyan was led by Caleb Ashley as he scored a game high 31 points. Kelsey Williams scored 25 points and pulled down 17 rebounds for a double double on the night.
The Pioneers return to the court this Saturday, February 16th when they travel to Shepherd. Game time is set for 4:00 pm.
