Lady Pioneers Win 17th Game in a Row

The Lady Pioneers had four players score in double figures with Kenyona Simmons leading the way with a game high 24 points in their 104-87 win over Shepherd

Shepherdstown, WV – The Glenville State Lady Pioneers won their 17th game in a row Saturday as they  improved their record to 23-2 (18-1) as they defeated the Shepherd University Rams, 104-87.

In the first half of play the Lady Pioneers and Rams were tied up early at 4-4 that is until GSC went on a run and built a 12 point lead at the 11:23 mark, 25-13.

Shepherd would battle back and cut the lead to only two points at the 4:16 minute mark, 41-39. But the GSC would continue to play and end up taking a 12 point lead into halftime, 57-45.

In the second half it was all GSC as Shepherd could only cut the lead to seven several times but that would be as close as they would get.

The Lady Pioneers would come away with a nice 17 point win over the Rams, 104-87.

It also marks the Lady Pioneers first road win at Shepherd under Head Coach Bunky Harkleroad, hard to believe with all their success.

GSC’s defense caused 24 turnovers and converted them into 23 points.

The Lady Pioneers also won the battle in the paint as they would outscore the Rams 38-26 in the lane.GSC also scored 13 second chance points while Shepherd scored eight points.

Both teams shot well as GSC finished the game shooting 52 percent while the Rams finished the game shooting 51 percent.

The Lady Pioneers had four players score in double figures with Kenyona Simmons leading the way with a game high 24 points. She also pulled down five rebounds.

Ashleigh Fossett scored 23 points. Ginny Mills scored 11 points and had four steals while Kenyell Goodson chipped in with 10 points and also had four steals.

LaToya Hambrick led GSC in rebounds with six while Jelena Elez led them in assists with four.

Shepherd was led by Emily Daniel with 20 points while Alex Tamez scored 16 for the Rmas.

The Lady Pioneers return to the hardwood this Monday, February 18th when they travel to the University of Charleston. Tip-off is set for 5:30pm.
