Glenville, WV – The Glenville State men’s basketball team won a thriller in overtime as they defeated the Concord Mountain Lions, 80-73.
GSC got down early as Concord jumped out to an 11 point lead, 7-18 at the 11:14 minute mark of the first half.
But the Pioneers would chip away and take their first lead of the game at the 5:46 minute mark. They would go up, 22-21.
The Pioneers would end up on top heading into halftime, 33-26.
In the second, half both teams would trade punches as the Mountain Lions and Pioneers were knotted at 40 all with 15:47 left in the game.
However Concord would go on a run and take a five point lead, 58-53 at the 9:47 minute mark.
GSC would comeback and take a 64-61 lead with 3:04 left to play. On the next possession Concord would hit a three and tie it at 64 all as they head in for overtime.
In overtime both teams would trade several baskets however the Pioneers defense would tighten up as they would go on a five point run and win the game by seven points, 80-73.
GSC’s defense caused 15 turnovers and converted them into 16 points. The Pioneers also out-scored the Mountain Lions in the paint 42 to 22. The Pioneers bench came up big as they out-scored Concords bench 22 to 11.
GSC had four players score in double figures with Lamar Mallory leading the way with 18 points and 11 rebounds for a double double. DJ Blanks scored 15 points while Kevin Gray and Jamel Morris both chipped in with 11 points. Morris also handed out six assists in the win.
Concord was led by Damien Tunstalle as he scored 25 points. Mike Boyd scored 16 points in the loss while Jordan Davis chipped in with 11 points.
The Pioneers return to the hardwood this Saturday, February 23rd when Alderson-Broaddus travels to Glenville. Game time is set for 4:00 pm.
