
Glenville State secured the top seed in next week’s WVIAC Women’s Basketball Tournament and will have a first-round bye
Princeton, WV – Glenville State secured the top seed in next week’s WVIAC Women’s Basketball Tournament and will have a first-round bye.
The Pioneers (26-2, 21-1) completed the regular season with 20 straight wins and will rest until Wednesday’s quarterfinal in the Civic Center. GSC will play the 6:30 p.m. game of the quarterfinals.
Earlier in the week, West Liberty secured the second seed. The Hilltoppers completed the 2012-13 regular season with a mark of 19-7 overall and 17-5 against league play. WLU will host Ohio Valley (2-24, 2-20) at 7:30 p.m. on Monday in a first-round game.
Fairmont State completed the year with a 19-9 overall mark, including a 16-6 effort against conference opponents. The Falcons host Wheeling Jesuit (8-18, 5-17) at 7:30 p.m. on Monday.
Davis & Elkins (15-11, 14-8) secured a huge win in its regular-season finale and earned the No. 4 spot in the upcoming tournament. The Senators host Alderson-Broaddus (7-19, 6-16) at 6:30 p.m. on Monday.
Seton Hill earned the No. 5 seed after recording a win over Pitt-Johnstown Saturday afternoon. The Griffins (16-12, 13-9) entertain No. 12 Concord (7-21, 6-16) at 7 p.m. Monday evening.
With a win over its rival on Saturday, West Virginia State garnered the No. 6 spot in the tournament. The Yellow Jackets (13-13, 12-10) host the defending WVIAC Champion West Virginia Wesleyan Bobcats (8-17, 7-15) Monday night at 7 p.m.
Shepherd earned a huge win over West Liberty Thursday night, helping the Rams earn a first-round home game. SU (13-13, 12-10) hosts Bluefield State (13-12, 11-11) at 7 p.m. on Monday.
For the second straight season, Pitt-Johnstown (14-11, 12-10) hosts Charleston (145-12, 11-11) in a first-round contest. This season, the Lady Cats earned the No. 8 seed.
First-round match-ups are played on the campuses of the higher seeds. All games are slated to be played Monday, Feb. 25.
