Erie, Pa. – The Glenville State College Lady Pioneers season comes to an end as they fall to California (PA) in the second round of the NCAA Division II Tournament by a final of, 79-81.
California (PA) jumped out to an early nine point lead at the 18:16 mark of the first half as they went up, 9-0.
California (PA) would then extend their lead to 15 points with 6:18 left to play till halftime, 35-20.
However GSC would make a run and cut into their lead as they pulled within seven points at halftime, 50-43.
In the second half of play the Lady Pioneers would come out fighting as they would cut California (PA) to two points, 58-60, with 14:06 left in the game.
But California (PA) would come right back and once again build a nine point lead, 61-70, with only 10:00 minutes left.
GSC would tie the game up at 79 all with 1:17 left to play but California’s (PA) Stephanie Michael would hit a layup as the Lady Pioneers would fall in the second round of the NCAA Tournament by two points, 81-79.
GSC turned the ball over 25 times while California (PA) only committed 17 in the game.
Both teams scored 30 points in the paint; however GSC would score 13 second chance points to California (PA) 11 points.
The Lady Pioneers would also win the rebounding battle as they out-rebounded California (PA) 43-33.
Ginny Mills scored a game high 37 points she also pulled down seven rebounds. Jelena Elez was the only other Lady Pioneer to score in double figures as she chipped in with 12 points, she also dished out a game high six assists.
LaToya Hambrick, Ashleigh Fossett, and Kenyona Simmons all scored seven points in the game.
California (PA) was led by Stephanie Michael as she scored 23 points while Elena Antonenko scored 16 points and pulled down nine rebounds.
With the loss the Lady Pioneers season comes to an end, they finish the season with an overall record of 27-4.
