Glenville, WV – Hillary Tinney, a senior Environmental Science major at Glenville State College, has been accepted into the City of Glenville’s Mayor’s Internship Program (MIP). The MIP is an opportunity for current college undergraduates to learn about and contribute to the city government that manages operations for the county seat of Gilmer County.

“During the internship, I will assign substantive projects and tasks providing research, administrative, and staff assistance to various areas across the City of Glenville municipal government,” said Glenville Mayor Tashua Allman-Duval.

Interns are also provided the opportunity to learn about careers in government, hear from leaders in city government, and visit city facilities. The MIP offers real work experience, while exposing participants to the functions and procedures of a municipal government.

“I am ecstatic that I was selected as the 2013 Spring MIP. This opportunity will help my future endeavors in the political field as well as help me gain experience and meet new people,” said Tinney, a native of Widen, West Virginia (Clay County).

Tinney is an active leader on the Glenville State College campus. She is a member of the GSC Recycling Club and a member of the Glenville Environmental Organization (GEO). She was a former GSC Student Government Treasurer and had also been selected by the GSC Land Resources Department Chair, Milan Vavrek, in 2011 for the Undergraduate Internship Alaskan Program where she spent almost a month in Alaska backpacking across the terrain doing scientific studies. She is an active student worker for the Glenville State College College Completion Center.
