Buckhannon, W. Va. – The Glenville State baseball team dropped a double header to the West Virginia Wesleyan Bobcats on Saturday afternoon.
In the first game, West Virginia Wesleyan would score two runs in the first inning as Ryan Lewcki hit an RBI single to score J.R. Tenny and later in the inning Spencer Webley also hit an RBI single as Ryan Lewcki scored as they took an early, 2-0 lead.
The Pioneers would then tie the game up at 2-2 in the top of the fourth inning as Kenneth Finzel had a RBI single as Brock McClung scored while John Orsborn had an RBI sacrifice fly as Sean Garza crossed the plate.
But Wesleyan would come right back in the bottom of the fourth as they scored two mores runs to take a 4-2 lead over GSC.
However the Pioneers would add three runs in the top of the fifth inning as Justin Leis, Ethan Szabo, and Sean Garza all scored as GSC went up, 5-4
But again Wesleyan would comeback and retake the lead in the bottom of the fifth inning as they scored two runs as they would go up, 6-5.
The Pioneers would later tie it up at 6-6, but it wouldn’t be enough as Wesleyan would score the wining run in the bottom of the seventh as they would take game one, 6-7.
In the second game, Wesleyan again would score first as they would go up 1-0 in the bottom of thje third inning.
The Bobcats would add another run in the bottom of the fourth and add three runs in the bottom of the sixth inning as they would take a 5-0 lead over the Pioneers heading into the seventh inning.
GSC would score two runs in the top of the seventh as Brock McClung hit a two homerun but that’s all the offense the Pioneers could get going as they fell to West Virginia Wesleyan in game two, 5-2.
Brock McClung had a great day as he went 2 for 6 with 3 RBI’s and scored 2 runs on the day. Sean Garza went 3 for 7 and scored a run on the day. Jeremy Tindell, Tyler Wiseman, Kenneth Finzel, and John Orsborn all finished the day with an RBI.
Jonathan Murphy pitch 5.1 innings in the first game, he allowed 6hits, 5 runs, and struck out 2 batters.
Danny McCormick pitched 6 innings in the second game as he allowed 5 hits, 5 runs, and struck out 2 batters.
The Pioneers return to action Sunday, March 24th when they battle West Virginia Wesleyan as they complete the three game series. Game time is set for 1:00 pm.
