Princeton, W. Va. - Glenville State head coach Bunky Harkleroad has been named a finalist for the 2013 RUSSELL ATHLETIC/WBCA NCAA Division II National Coach of the Year.
Harkleroad led the Pioneers to a 27-4 overall record, including a 21-1 effort in WVIAC play. GSC won the WVIAC regular-season championship.
The Pioneers earned an at-large spot in the NCAA Division II Tournament. The squad ousted defending national champion Shaw 111-86 in the opening round before falling to California (Pa.) 81-79 in the second round of the Atlantic Region.
Harkleroad guided the Pioneers to a spot in the top 20 of the national polls for much of the season. GSC climbed as high as No. 12 and registered a 20-game winning streak during the year.
He coached two first-team all-conference selections in Ginny Mills and Kenyona Simmons. Harkleroad’s squad led the nation in scoring (95.3) and three-point field goals per game (14.0). The team was fourth in scoring margin (18.1).
The 2013 RUSSELL ATHLETIC/WBCA NCAA Division II National Coach of the Year will be named during the third annual WBCA Awards Show on Monday, April 8, in New Orleans. This event is part of the WBCA National Convention and is held in conjunction with the NCAA® Women’s Final Four®.
