Belle, W.Va. - The Glenville State softball team traveled to Belle, West Virginia on Monday, April 8th and swept the West Virginia Tech Golden Bears as they improve to 17-7 on the year.
In the first game of the double header West Virginia Tech would take a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the fourth inning as Morgan Scarpellini bobbled a ball as Jacki Wood and Megan Blythe both scored.
But the Lady Pioneers would cut Tech’s defecate in half as Sam Weaver hit a solo homerun in the top of the fifth making it, 2-1.
In the top of the sixth inning GSC would take their first lead as Meagen Lesser hit a single scoring Morgan Scarpellini and Katelyn Porter as the Lady Pioneers took a 3-2 lead.
However Tech would tie it up in the bottom of the sixth inning, 3-3.
But Kate Williams would come up big for GSC as she stole home plate on a wild pitch by Tech scoring the go ahead run, 4-3.
In the bottom of the seventh the Lady Pioneers would get three quick outs as they would come from behind to defeat West Virginia Tech in game one, 4-3.
Meagan Lesser went 1 for 3 with 2 RBI’s while Sam Weaver went 1 for 3, a homerun coming in the fifth inning.
Jess Fedor picked up the win for GSC as she pitched 3.1 innings allowing 4 hits, 3 runs, and struck out 5 batters.
In the second game of the double header West Virginia Tech would have a huge inning in the bottom of the first as they scored 5 runs on 6 hits as the Lady Pioneers committed 2 errors, as Tech went up 5-0.
But GSC would weather the storm and have an even bigger inning in the top of the second as they scored 8 runs on only 5 hits as West Virginia Tech committed 4 errors, making the score 8-5.
GSC would add another run in the top of the fourth inning as Brittany Spencer hit a single scoring Kayleigh Huck, 9-5.
The Lady Pioneers would add 4 more runs in the top of the seventh inning as they cruised to a 13-5 victory in game two.
Kayleigh Huck went 3 for 5 with 2 RBI’s and scored 2 runs while Katelyn Porter went 2 for 5 with 2 RBI’s and scored 2 runs. Also for GSC Morgan Scarpellini went 1 for 4 with 2 RBI’s and scored a run.
Carly Caldon, Brittany Spencer, and Kate Williams all finished the game with RBI’s.
Brittany May picked up the victory in game two as she pitched 6.2 innings, allowing 4 hits and no runs.
They Lady Pioneers return to action on Wednesday, April 10th when they travel to Shepherdstown, West Virginia for a double header with Shepherd. Game time is set for 1:00 pm.
