Glenville, W.Va. – The Glenville State Lady Pioneers sweep the Alderson-Broaddus Battlers on Saturday afternoon by scores of 5-4 and 6-3. It was also Senior Day as the GSC fans paid tribute to the five seniors, Jess Fedor, Christie Hittel, Shelby Colson, Katylen Porter, and Meagan Lesser.
In game one, the Lady Pioneers took a 2-0 lead over the Battlers in bottom of the second inning after Brittany Spencer hit an RBI double as Morgan Scarpellini crossed the plate and later in the inning Brittany Spencer crossed the plate as well.
Alderson-Broaddus would score a run in the top of the fourth inning as they pulled within one, 2-1.
But GSC would score another run in the bottom of the fourth as Brittany Spencer hit a sacrifice fly as Meagan Lesser scored, putting the Lady Pioneers up, 3-1.
Alderson-Broaddus scored another run in the top of the fifth once again pulling within one, 3-2.
Morgan Scarpellini would hit a two run homerun in the bottom of the fifth as she increased the Lady Pioneers lead to three, 5-2.
Alderson-Broaddus would add two runs in the top of the seventh as the Lady Pioneers won, 5-4.
Morgan Scarpellini went 2 for 3 with 2 RBI’s and scored 2 runs while Brittany Spencer went 1 for 2 with an RBI and scored a run.
Jess Fedor pitched four innings allowing 3 hits, 2 runs, and struck out 2 batters.
In the second game, GSC would score three runs in the bottom of the first inning as Kayleigh Huck hit a double scoring Carlee Charton and Sam Weaver singled as she scored Meagan Lesser and Kayleigh Huck both scored, 3-0.
Alderson-Broaddus would score a run in the top of the second making it, 3-1.
But the Lady Pioneers would come right back as Shelby Colson hit a solo homerun putting GSC up, 4-1.
GSC would add a run in the bottom of the fourth and in the bottom of the fifth inning as they would go on to win game two, 6-3.
Kayleigh Huck went 1 for 2 with an RBI and scored a run. Shelby Colson went 1 for 3 and had a solo homerun.
Brittany May pitched all seven innings as she allowed 7 hits, 3 runs, and struck out 5 batters.
The Lady Pioneers return to action Sunday, April 21st when they take on WVIAC rival Fairmont State. The winner will most likely move into first place in the WVIAC Conference. Game time is set for 3:00 pm.
