Glenville, W. Va. - On Friday, July 12th Glenville State College Head Men’s Basketball Coach Stephen Dye and team will host their annual golf outing at the Glenville Golf Course.
This year the GSC Pioneers are honoring former GSC Head Basketball Coach Gary Nottingham. Nottingham is a 1979 graduate, and a native of Gassaway, West Virginia. While at GSC he was a part of the basketball and baseball team. He played for GSC Hall of Fame Coach Jesse R. Lilly; he was also named to the WVIAC All-Conference Basketball Team in 1978 and 1979.
After his playing days Nottingham took over the Pioneers Basketball in 1983 at only 26 years old. At the time made him the youngest head coach of any 4-year college in the U.S.
In 1993 he was the WVIAC Conference coach of the year after leading the Pioneers to a 21-5 record and a national ranking of 18th- GSC’s best since 1942. The team finished second in the WVIAC that year with 17 conference wins. His team captured a second place win at the 1995 WVIAC Tournament. During his 14 seasons the Pioneers made five semi-final appearances.
In 2007 Nottingham was inducted into the GSC Curtis Elam Athletic Hall of Fame.
