Twenty-Nine Students Recognized At Honors Convocation

GLENVILLE, WV – Twenty-nine students, one student organization, and one student group’s faculty advisors have been recognized at the 2013 Glenville State College Honors Convocation Ceremony.  The ceremony took place on May 1st following a banquet in the Mollohan Campus Community Center Ballroom.  GSC President Dr. Peter Barr welcomed everyone to the event, and Provost Dr. John Peek presided over the awards ceremony.

GSC Department of Business Chair and Professor Dr. Chuck Batson presented academic awards to the following business students:  business administration and computer and information systems major Gregory C. Brewster of Waynesboro, Pennsylvania; business administration and accounting major Stephany L. Harper of Little Birch (Braxton County), West Virginia; business administration, accounting, and business management major Andrew R. Metheney of Grantsville (Calhoun County), West Virginia; business administration and business education (5-adult) major Virginia E. Riffle of Exchange (Braxton County), West Virginia; business administration and marketing major (with a nonprofit leadership minor) Matthew D. Thompson of St. Albans (Kanawha County), West Virginia; and business administration major Gayle M. Wine of Sutton (Braxton County), West Virginia.

GSC Department of Education Chair and Associate Professor Dr. Kevin Cain presented academic awards to the following education students:  elementary education (K-6) and Early Education (PreK-K) major Tiffany D. Carper of Spencer (Roane County), West Virginia; elementary education (K-6) and general mathematics (5-9) major Nancy M. Mulhare of Sutton (Braxton County), West Virginia; elementary education (K-6) and general mathematics (5-9) major Amelia D. Park of Shepherdstown (Jefferson County), West Virginia; and physical education and health (PreK-adult) major Jacob N. Wolfe of Glenville (Gilmer County), West Virginia.

GSC Department of Fine Arts Chair and Assistant Professor Mr. Lloyd Bone presented academic awards to the following fine arts students:  music education (PreK-adult) major Brittany Lott of Cabins (Grant County), West Virginia; studio art major Jillian N. Malone of Alum Bridge (Lewis County), West Virginia; and music major Sara Rollins of MacFarlan (Ritchie County), West Virginia.

GSC Department of Land Resources Chair and Professor Dr. Milan Vavrek presented academic awards to the following land resources students:  natural resource management and forest technology major Jessica L. Allen of Cameron (Marshall County), West Virginia; land surveying major Justin M. Dilley of Dunmore (Pocahontas County), West Virginia; natural resource management and business management major (with a minor in environmental science) Courtney S. Holcomb-Bennett of Glenville (Gilmer County), West Virginia; and natural resource management and environmental science major Adam D. Wilson of Weston (Lewis County), West Virginia.

GSC Department of Language and Literature Chair and Associate Professor Mr. Wayne de Rosset presented academic awards to the following language and literature students:  English (5-adult) major Janis R. Collins of Heaters (Braxton County), West Virginia and English major (with a history minor) Allan J. Crum of Smithville (Ritchie County), West Virginia.

GSC Department of Science and Mathematics Chair and Assistant Professor Dr. Gary Morris presented academic awards to the following science and math students:  biology major (with a psychology minor) Aaron Frymier of Glenville (Gilmer County), West Virginia; biology major (with a psychology minor) Marteney J. Jacobs of Flemington (Taylor County), West Virginia; and chemistry and physics major Logan Ramsey of Bickmore (Clay County), West Virginia.

GSC Department of Social Science Chair and Associate Professor Dr. Ed Wood presented academic awards to the following social science students:  history and political science major (with a business management minor) Carol J. Bearce of Pullman (Ritchie County), West Virginia; social studies (5-adult) major Andrew L. Bourgeois of Ripley (Jackson County), West Virginia; criminal justice major Craig A. Estep of Glasgow (Kanawha County), West Virginia; and psychology and sociology major (with a nonprofit leadership minor) Timothy A. Swiger of Sand Fork (Gilmer County), West Virginia.

GSC Athletic Director Mrs. Janet Bailey presented academic awards to the following student athletes:  biology major (with chemistry and criminal justice minors) and softball player Meagan M. Lesser of Dyke, Virginia and business administration, accounting, and business management major and football player Kyle J. Warner of Gassaway (Braxton County), West Virginia.

GSC Dean of Student Affairs Mr. Jerry Burkhammer presented the following student affairs awards:  Outstanding Student Organization Award to the Science Fiction and Fantasy Guild; Outstanding Student Organization Leader Award to Student Government Association Public Officer Victoria Vineyard of Arnoldsburg (Calhoun County), West Virginia; and Outstanding Student Organization Advisor Award to Science Fiction and Fantasy Guild Faculty and Staff Advisors Ms. Melissa Gish, Dr. George Hoshell, Dr. Jonathan Minton, and Mr. Chuck Schmidt.
