Glenville, W.Va. - The Glenville State College Pioneer football team along with Head Coach David Hutchison and staff opened up the 2013 Fall Camp Monday, August 12th.
About 120 student-athletes took the field for their first practice of the 2013 season. Today we
Even though the Pioneers brought in several new key players they have quite a bit returning this season.
On the offensive side of the ball the Pioneers will rely on running back Rahmann Lee, who was the National Freshman of the Year last season, also returning at running back is Quin Thorton, Derek McRae, and Manny Smith.
The Pioneers return several quarterbacks, Justin Feagin, who was the team’s returning leading passer with 643 yards last season and six had six touchdowns. Also at the quarterback position is senior Steffen Colon who missed all of last season with a knee injury, however this year he looks good and is ready to go.
Along the offensive line they return senior center Jon Rasnick and Richard Sloan. The Pioneers also return sophomore tight end Jake Harper.
On the defensive side of the ball the Pioneers return several defensive linemen in Kyle Warner, Brain Lambert, Gary Henderson, and Hunter McWhorter. McWhorter was the 2011 WVIAC Freshman Defensive Player of the Year.
At the linebacker core they return leading tackler James Johnson, with 92 last season, they also return Devin Cain, Emmanuel Hernandez and Taylor Coleman.
In the defensive secondary the Pioneers return all four starters which are led by senior safety Terry Reese, Adrian Davis also returns at the other safety position. While both corners Darren Elliott and Demetrius Quarles both return. They both combined for seven interceptions last season.
“We are really excited about the players we have returning, all these young men have been though a season and knows what it takes to win,” stated Head Coach David Hutchison.
