Glenville, WV— On Friday, April 29 during the GSC Week Picnic at Mollohan’s Restaurant, Glenville State College Dean of Student Affairs Jerry Burkhammer introduced Brittany Lott as the new GSC Pioneer Mascot for the 2011-2012 school year.
Lott hails from Grant County West Virginia. She will be a sophomore next fall majoring in Music Education. She was selected as the Pioneer after completing an application process which includes an essay, references, and an interview with the selection committee.
The new Pioneer is only the third female mascot in school history, following in the footsteps of former Pioneer Mascots Myla Mynes (1990-1991) and Marti Herson (1993-1994). Lott becomes the 74th Pioneer Mascot.
“I absolutely love Glenville State College and am looking forward to representing the school, the students, and fans as their Pioneer Mascot. I am full of school spirit and not afraid to act crazy and try to generate some excitement. I hope I will be able to pass along my enthusiasm and raise school spirit,” said Lott.
During her first year at GSC, Lott has participated with the GSC Marching Band and Pep Band, the Music Educators National Conference (MENC) and is a member of the Chi Zeta Pi sorority.
As the GSC Pioneer, Lott’s duties will include attending GSC football and basketball games, tournaments, and other school events. The Pioneer is charged with working with GSC students, faculty, and staff to positively promote and support the college. The official uniform of the GSC Pioneer mascot is a set of buckskins, a coonskin hat, and a musket.
The new Pioneer will begin her tenure at the GSC Fall Convocation in August. She will take the field for her first football game as the Pioneer Mascot on Thursday, September 1st when the Pioneers host Carson-Newman at 7:00 p.m. at Morris Stadium.
“I think Brittany was the best selection for our new GSC Pioneer. Although she will only be a sophomore, she is very mature and professional and possesses a wonderful enthusiasm. She will be a great Pioneer,” said Burkehammer.
Lott is the daughter of Robert and Glenna Lott of Cabins, West Virginia and Penny Prater of Petersburg, Virginia.
