GSC Linebacker James Johnson Named MEC Defensive Player of the Week

GSC linebacker James Johnson has been named the Mountain East Conference Defensive Football Player of the Week

Bridgeport, W.Va. - Jeff Ziemba (Shepherd), James Johnson (Glenville State) and Josh Reuber (West Virginia State) have been named Mountain East Conference Players of the Week for their efforts in the final week of the regular season.

R-Fr., QB, 6-3, 186

Newark, Del./St. Marks

Ziemba, a redshirst freshman from Newark, Del., was nearly perfect as he led Shepherd a 41-33 win over Concord to secure the Mountain East Conference championship. He was 14-of-15 passing for 231 yards and three touchdowns.

Fairfax, Va.

Johnson, a sophomore linebacker from Fairfax, Va., racked up 13.5 tackles in leading Glenville State to a 17-12 victory over the Yellow Jackets. Johnson also had a pair of pass breakups in the victory for the Pioneers.

Fr., K, 5-10, 190

Macomb, Mich./Dakota HS

Reuber, a freshman kicker from  Macomb, Mich., connected on all four of his field goal attempts to provide all of the scoring for West Virginia State in a losing effort. Reuber hit from 38, 19, 36 and 42 yards out for WVSU.

Offensive: Rahmann Lee (Glenville State) had 132 yards and a touchdown in a win over WV State … Dylan Potts (West Liberty) had six catches his seventh TD of the season against Notre Dame College … D.J. Mendenhall (Urbana) was 25-of-33 for 298 yards and two touchdowns and engineered a 94-yard drive in the final minutes to lead the Blue Knights to a win over Charleston … James Long (UVa-Wise) had nine catches for 187 yards and two TDs in a loss to Fairmont State … Tiko Henderson (Concord) had five catches for 113 yards and a score against Shepherd … Cooper Hibbs (Fairmont State) had a season-high 309 yards passing and two touchdowns in a win over UVa-Wise.
Defensive: Rod White (West Liberty) had seven tackles and broke up three passes against Notre Dame … Lamar Ross (Urbana) had a game-high 14 tackles and a sack against Charleston … Jake Lilly (Concord) wrapped up his stellar career with 12 tackles against Shepherd … Garrett Davis had 13 tackles (11 solo) against UVa-Wise.
Special Teams: Bryan Arbes (West Liberty) hit his 19th field goal of the season and also punted against Notre Dame … John Dearstine (Fairmont State) was 2-of-2 on field goal attempts vs. UVa-Wise … C.J. Davis (Shepherd) had four punt returns for 109 yards vs. Concord.
