GLENVILLE, WV—Rehearsals are underway for the Glenville State College Theatre production ‘Winter Solstice.’ The play will run Tuesday, December 3rd until Thursday, December 5th at 7:00 p.m. each night in the GSC Administration Building Presidents Auditorium.

GSC Assistant Director of English Marjorie Stewart wrote the play and says it is a story that takes the traditional meaning of Santa Claus and turns things around. “Plays often present old stories in the same way. This is a fresh new look on the myth of Santa Claus and the meaning of Christmas,” said Stewart.

The cast of ‘Winter Solstice’ includes GSC freshman general studies major Aaron DeLilly from Beckley  (Raleigh County), West Virginia as Mr. Von Kinder; GSC freshman English education (5-adult) major Mary Lewis from Harpers Ferry (Jefferson County), West Virginia as Alex; GSC senior psychology/sociology major Rose Johnson from Westover (Monongalia County), West Virginia as Carol; local resident Justin Blankenship from Normantown (Gilmer County), West Virginia as Ed; local resident Isabel Morris (daughter of GSC Assistant Professor of Biology and Science and Mathematics Department Chair Dr. Gary Morris) of Glenville (Gilmer County), West Virginia as Jamie; GSC senior natural resource management major Brittany Ferguson from Glenville (Gilmer County), West Virginia as Ethel, Elaine, and Evelyn; and GSC freshman general studies major Autumn Barnett from Richwood (Nicholas County), West Virginia who is the show’s stage manager.

Stewart says the play may not be suitable for children who still believe in Santa Claus.  General admission is $3.00, and GSC students with IDs get in for free. For more information, contact Stewart at or (304) 462-6330.
