Shepherdstown, W.Va. – The Glenville State men’s basketball squad suffered their first loss of the season this evening as they fell on the road to the Shepherd University Rams, 78-98.
In the first half of the Pioneers would find themselves down 23-12 at the 10:43 mark as Shepherd had built an 11 point lead. However GSC would cut that deficit to only 7 at halftime as they went into intermission down 33-40.
Early in the second half the Pioneers would come out firing and tie the game up at 40 all with 17:54 left in the game.
But it wouldn’t be enough as the Shepherd Rams would go on a run midway through the second half and end up going on the defeat the Pioneers, 78-98.
The Pioneers were out-rebounded by 8 as Shepherd pulled down 36 to the Pioneers 28.
GSC shot 47 percent from the floor while Shepherd shot 56 percent from the floor.
The Pioneers bench out scored the Rams bench 17 to 11.
GSC had four players score in double figures with Lamar Mallory leading the way with 21 points and grabbed a game high 8 rebounds. Reggie Williams scored 15 points and dished out a game high 5 assists.
Lamont Cole scored 11 points off the bench for GSC while Brien Winston scored 10 points on the night.
Donte Morales also played a nice game as he finished with 9 points and 7 rebounds.
Shepherd was led by Brantley Osborne as he scored 25 points.
The Pioneers are 2-1 (0-1) on the season, they return to action on Monday, November 25th when Fairmont State travels to Glenville. Game time is set for 7:30 p.m.
