Glenville, W.Va. – The Glenville State Lady Pioneers continued their winning streak as they defeated MEC Conference foe West Virginia State at home on Saturday afternoon by a final score of, 104-94.
The Lady Pioneers and Yellow Jackets would battle back and fourth throughout the first half however GSC would take a two point lead into halftime, 53-51.
In the second half the Yellow Jackets would hold an 83-81 lead over the Lady Pioneers with only 5:09 left to play but GSC would weather the storm. GSC would go on a seven point run as they took a 88-83 lead with 4:12 left in the game and would never look back.
The Lady Pioneers would win their eighth game in a row as they defeated West Virginia State by eight points, 104-96.
The Lady Pioneers defense caused 27 turnovers and converted them into 34 points. GSC only shot 34 percent from the floor in the game with West Virginia State shot 49 percent from the floor.
Kenyona Simmons scored 20 points for the Lady Pioneers while Kenyell Goodson chipped in with 18 points. Goodson also had 3 steals in the game.
Tasia Bristow scored 12 points and handed out 4 assists while Keyanna Tate scored 10 points in the victory. Aesha Peters pulled down 11 rebounds and scored 8 points for GSC.
West Virginia State was led by Lexy Carson as she scored a game high 36 points. Also for the Yellow Jackets India Taste finished with a double double as she scored 20 points and grabbed 16 rebounds.
The Lady Pioneers return to action Monday, January 6th when they travel to the University of Charleston as they take on the Golden Eagles. Tip-off is set for 5:30pm.
